Biology & Art Exploration Program

What is it?

Rainforest Art Foundation's Biology and Art Exploration Program is a hands-on program designed by Rebekah White, and adapted by Hannah Taylor for groups, to help children learn art and science in a fun environment. We aim to help kids better understand concepts of art and biology by teaching these subjects together and by using an array of different examples, games, and art projects. We hope that by tying these subjects together, we can help art and science to become fun and interesting for kids to learn. We also hope to encourage lifelong awareness, appreciation, and care for our natural environments - this program is especially designed for Rainforest Art Foundation's mission to increase appreciation of nature through art.

The debut of this program consists of four, 3-hour long sessions of learning and fun--every Thursday in July starting July 9, 2015. Four curricula are rotated during the four weeks, with adjustments for the age groups involved. These curricula are designed to take a concept from biology and a concept from art and flesh them out over the course of the week. Kids are able to make connections between the creative and analytical sides of their brains by exposing themselves to both concepts at the same time.

What concepts are there?

Butterflies and Blending

This session will cover the life and behaviors of butterflies while exploring the art of blending and mixing colors.

Animals & Abstract Art

Kids will learn about different animals' roles in the ecosystem paired with studies in abstract art.

Camouflage and Composition

Kids will learn what camouflage is and why animals use it while learning about techniques in composition.

Plants and Perspectives

Kids will learn about plant structure and environments while also learning how to express the different ways you can look at the world.

*These topics are subject to change as the curriculum is developed.
